John,
It's a "secluded enclave" west of Pinehurst Ave from 182nd to about 184th. The Tudor apartments all 354 of them were built on the slope. Most had great views of the river before Paterno's Castle disappeared and Castle Village went up.
It felt like a medieval town with the winding walls, stairways, and little shops tucked in the buildings. It had its own private lane. They were all co-ops. I think they were built in the mid 20's. I delivered laundry to some apartments and for a young kid it was a nice trip to walk up the 181st hill and then up the stairs to the next block. And then into the Hudson View complex. Not many people owned their apartment. Even the wealthy of Castle Village.
