Went to Bishop DuBois, a short distance from Polo Grounds and used to sneak into Giant games using the human fly technique to scale the wall on the left field side of the ballpark.
On other occasions would gain admittance by selling peanuts.
One of my favorite players was Big Johnny Mize, who would have established an unbreakable homerun record if he played anywhere else in hsi prime. Problem was that Polo Grounds had the deepest center field in baseball and Mize was a straight away hitter.
The All Time Giant, however, had to be Willie Mays. What a thrill to watch him hit or make one of his famous basket catches.
As a kid, and even later, we spent hours arguing who was better: Willie or Mickey Mantle.
